The Advantages of Organic Cotton

Biodiversity
Organic growing techniques involve crop rotation, which encourages biological diversity, a healthier ecosystem and a healthier work environment.

Soil Fertility
The use of cover crops, also known as "green manure," helps to reduce erosion, eliminates the need for synthetic fertilizers and improves the quality of the soil.

True Economy
Buying organic means you don't have to sacrifice the environment's health and well being - or your own - for the clothes on your back

How we make a CERTTON Shirt

Growing
The certified organic cotton in our ‘Certton’ range of t-shirts is sourced from Australia, India & Turkey. Certified organic cotton is farmed without the use of pesticides, genetically modified seed or synthetic fertilizers. The soil is built up over the years to retain moisture and fungus enabling in our case the organic cotton to prosper on a dry land (non-irrigated) farm. We alway's choose Australian grown certified organic cotton first but in recent time's, due to demand,we have had to import certified organic cotton yarn. Our mission remains to build a sustainable organic cotton industry in Australia.

Ginning
Once the cotton is picked, the cotton is passed through a gin where the seeds and leaves from the plants are separated from the cotton fibre. The gin is cleaned out of conventional cotton fibre prior to our organic cotton being processed. The ginned organic cotton is then packed into bales and each bale is tested by an independent body for its quality. Our Australian organic cotton is tested and classed by Australian Classing Services based in Narrabri.

Spinning
The Australian organic cotton lint is then transported to a spinning mill in Victoria, here the spinning mill is cleaned out of conventional cotton and our organic cotton is spun into yarn. The certified organic cotton yarn we import from India & Turkey is spun and certified by the the Control Union formerly SKAL.

Knitting
All our fabrics are made in Australia from either Australian certified organic cotton or imported certified organic cotton yarn. Once the organic cotton yarn is knitted into a single jersey t-shirt fabric it's ready for manufacturing garments.

Manufacturing
The rolls of organic cotton fabric are then transported to our Sydney factory where we make ’Certton’ t-shirts as members of the ‘Australian Made Campaign’.
